While Washington, DC’s L’Enfant Plan has withstood the test of time during the city’s 200-year history, the national capital continues to evolve, balancing the permanence of monuments and memorials with the dynamic changes of a living city. Organized collaboratively by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), and the National Building Museum, the first annual Charles H. Atherton Memorial Lecture and Framing a Capital City Symposium will guide the National Capital Framework Plan, a joint NCPC-CFA initiative to plan for the 21st century.
2007 National Cherry Blossom Festival: News Release

The official kick-off for Washington D.C.’s National Cherry Blossom Festival® (NCBF) will begin on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the National Building Museum (NBM) with the National Cherry Blossom Festival Family Day. Presented in collaboration with the Museum, the free Family Day runs from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. The official Opening Ceremony will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, rain or shine.

If “all the world’s a stage,” as William Shakespeare put it in As You Like It, then it had better be well designed. The National Building Museum’s newest exhibition, Reinventing the Globe: A Shakespearean Theater for the 21st Century, traces the longstanding fascination with the Globe theater, in which many of Shakespeare’s plays premiered, and the numerous efforts to evoke the spirit of that structure in subsequent theater designs. The show culminates with a series of hypothetical Shakespearean theaters for the 21st century, which suggest innovative strategies for bringing the playwright’s work to modern audiences.

The National Building Museum announces Dr. Paul Teicholz as the fifth recipient of the Henry C. Turner Prize for Innovation in Construction Technology. The Prize is being awarded to Teicholz for carrying the architecture, construction, and engineering fields into the information age through his development and integration of information technology into the building and design industries. For more than 40 years, Teicholz has worked in the academic and engineering industries, bridging cutting-edge research and real-life needs to create industry-wide improvements in project management, modeling, and business processes.
