The Great Hall measures 316 feet by 116 feet, and is 159 feet at its highest point. The fountain is 28 feet across and still has its original terra cotta trim.

Historic Building Tours
Informative, fascinating tours of the Museum’s historic home are offered daily by Museum docents. Constructed of more than 15 million bricks, the Museum houses some of the largest Corinthian columns in the world and has been the site of 16 Presidential Inaugural balls, from Grover Cleveland's in 1885 to George W. Bush's in 2004. Come face-to-face with the colossal capitals of the Corinthian columns as you tour the Museum's fourth floor—not accessible to the general public! Learn more.
Tours last 45 minutes and are offered daily at 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 1:30 pm.

Special Veteran's Day Tours

The National Building Museum is offering special tours of its historic home, the former Pension Building. Built in the 1880s as an office for the U.S. Pension Bureau, architect Montgomery C. Meigs designed this spectacular building with the soldiers in mind. Visitors will not only learn about the history of the Pension building, but also about the architectural features designed to honor the brave fighters of the Civil War and accommodate the wounded veterans who frequented the building to collect their pensions
Tours last 45 minutes and are offered November 11, 2008 at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm.
